JOHN WAITE Announces 40th Anniversary ‘Wooden Heart’ Australian Tour!

8 min read

English singer-songwriter JOHN WAITE has announced his first Australian tour. John will be performing his catalogue of hits from his 40 year career as a solo artist, with The Baby’s and Bad English and presented in a unique electric-acoustic format with his band.

John Waite’s catalogue of hits features some of the most loved songs of the 80s and 90s – the #1 Worldwide hit ‘Missing You’, The Baby’s ‘Isn’t It Time’ and Bad English’s ‘When I See You Smile’ rank amongst some of his biggest international hits and are still heard on radio today. Others include ‘Tears’, ‘Change’ and ‘These Times Are Hard For Lovers’. ‘Every Step Of The Way’ and ‘If Anybody Had A Heart’ appeared on the soundtrack to the 1986 Demi Moore film About Last Night. ‘Deal for Life’, penned by Martin Page and Bernie Taupin, was featured in the Days Of Thunder soundtrack. As a solo artist and as the lead singer of The Baby’s and Bad English, John Waite was a fixture of album-oriented rock radio stations during the ’70s and ’80s. John Waite had a talent for power ballads and driving arena rock, occasionally touching on new wave-styled power pop as well.

John has continued to write and record over the last 3 decades and released some exciting, eclectic music over the years. Big, loud rock and roll albums such as Temple Bar (1995), When You Were Mine (1997), The Hard Way (2004) and Rough & Tumble (2011) to the stripped back, acoustic recordings of The Wooden Heart-Acoustic Anthology Vol 1 & 2 (2015 and 2017). John Waite has always celebrated music with powerful songs that audiences connect to deeply.

John Waite formed The Baby’s in London, England in 1976 and found chart success very quickly with hits such as ‘Isn’t It Time’ and ‘Every Time I Think Of You’. After the group disbanded in 1978 Waite began his solo career and in 1984 released the album No Brakes which featured the global #1 single ‘Missing You’ and Top 10 Billboard hit ‘Tears’. John Waite formed the supergroup Bad English in 1988 with former Baby’s Jonathan Cain and Ricky Phillips (bass), ex-Journey guitarist Neal Schon, and drummer Deen Castronovo. The group’s debut album, released in 1989 on Epic Records, became a platinum success after the power ballad ‘When I See You Smile’ became a number one hit. Other hits included ‘Price of Live’, ‘Straight To Your Heart’ and ‘Best Of What I Got’.

Since returning to the recording studio and concert trek as a solo artist in 1995, John has produced a string of solid, existentially eccentric, courageously eclectic and blisteringly electric rock n’ roll records, including 1995’s Temple Bar, 1997’s When You Were Mine, 2001’s Figure in a Landscape, 2004’s The Hard Way, 2006’s Downtown: Journey of a Heart and 2010’s In Real Time –an extraordinary live recording that featured burning in-concert realizations of the Baby’s Change’, ‘Back on My Feet Again’ and ‘Head First’, not to mention Bad English’s ‘Best of What I’ve Got’ as well as a mind-blowing cover of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Rock and Roll.’ It was this lifelong passion for original Country that inspired John’s sensational 2006 duet with bluegrass legend, Allison Krauss, where the two combined honeysweet vocal forces to remake his international hit, ‘Missing You.’ On February 5, 2007, they performed the song on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

His most recent recordings, The Wooden Heart-Acoustic Anthology Volume 1 and Volume 2, released in 2015 and 2017, respectively, features Waite in stripped back format – vocals and acoustic guitar only – and highlights the core essence of the songs themselves, threading newly penned original compositions, reworkings of some of Waite’s favorite material from his solo career and The Babys alongside smartly chosen covers by the likes of Bob Dylan (“Girl From The North Country”), Donovan (“Catch The Wind”) and Richard Thompson, into an authentic and soul stirring musical statement.

This will be John Waite’s very first tour of Australia and Australia could not be more excited!
