THIRSTY MERC ANNOUNCE TOUR RETURN

9 min read

The accident which sadly took the life of the band’s stage manager, Shane Cooper, and placed drummer, Mick Skelton, in intensive care for several days, has seen the Australian music industry and fans rallying around Thirsty Merc and the band are eternally grateful for all the well wishes and support they have received.

Thirsty Merc said today, “It’s been a really hard time for us. There were moments where we seriously questioned whether we’d be walking out on stage at all for the rest of the year. We’ll always be thinking of Shane. We find some comfort in knowing that he had so many happy moments in his last days with us. Our thoughts are also with Mick every day as he continues to make a recovery – we’re sending him all the strength we can muster up. We want to say our deepest thanks to everyone who has reached out recently. It’s been overwhelming; it’s changed our perspective on life on the road. We’ve been shown a lot of love through that support, and it really has helped us as a band in getting through a truly devastating time. The Merc would like to share the love with everyone at the upcoming shows, so we can send as much as we can back to Shane, Mick, and their families, who need it most right now.”

Thirsty Merc will be donating a percentage of the proceeds from every ticket sold for the rest of The Good Life tour dates to assist the grief-stricken families through this difficult period.  A benefit concert is currently in the planning stages and an announcement is expected in the coming weeks.

It’s been 12 years since Thirsty Merc burst onto the Australian music landscape with their first independent EP following up with three critically acclaimed studio albums, an acoustic fan favourites record entitled ‘AAA: Acoustic Anniversary Album’ and a swag of classic, radio staples like 20 Good Reasons, Someday Someday, Mousetrap Heart and In The Summertime.

The band’s new album, Shifting Gears, is out now and the lead single, The Good Life, has been picking up radio airplay around the country including the Triple M network and Southern Cross Austereo regional stations.  See the video for The Good Life here

Tickets for all remaining shows on The Good Life Tour are on sale now.  For further information on all shows, go to www.thirstymerc.com.
