LIAM GALLAGHER Announces Support Acts

4 min read

Once voted by the readers of Q Magazine as the “greatest front man of all time”, living legend Liam Gallagher will return to Australia and New Zealand in December as he celebrates the release of his massively anticipated second solo record, Why Me? Why Not? (out Sept 20).

Shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland will give Australasian audiences a chance to revel in tracks from Gallagher’s untouchable back catalogue as well as taking in newer cuts from his more recent output.

As announced, Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Cinnamon will open Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne shows.

Sydney four-piece, Planet will be coming along for the ride in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. With fast gaining momentum they have switched out playing local pub gigs in their hometown to playing bigger and bigger stages across the globe, including the likes of The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City, Hit The North, Stag & Dagger.

Their reputation as a live force has grown with the venue sizes, and although still firmly in the formative chapter of their career, it’s rare to see a Planet show that isn’t teaming with die-hard fans belting every work back with a broad smile.

Across the country, lucky audiences in Fremantle will be treated to the abundantly talented sounds of singer-songwriter Alex Lahey. With a sardonic streak and a flair for crafting melodically charged and relatable pop-punk anthems, Alex Lahey broke through in 2016 when her song “You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me” earned her awards and positive press both at home and in the United States.

On her first full-length album, 2017’s I Love You Like a Brother, Lahey showed off her knack for energetic guitar-based tunes with equal portions of hooks and attitude, while 2019’s The Best of Luck Club found her mixing up her performances with a wider range of influences and tempos. Irresistibly catchy hooks abound throughout this Australian songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s assured second full-length with Lahey’s distinctively candid lyricism giving a voice to millennial ennui.

Now, as we hurtle towards 2020, it’s a sheer delight to hear the unmistakable voice of Liam Gallagher producing music just as timeless as he did at the peak of Britpop’s heyday, especially with such exceptional supports along for the ride.
