Songwriters have until 2 May to enter their songs for the chance to win big:

1st prize: $50,000
2nd prize: $10,000
3rd prize: $5,000
UNPUBLISHED prize: $5,000

Full entry fee supports the work of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia

Songwriters from around the world will now have until 5.00pm AEST 2 May to enter the 2019 Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition. The competition’s closing date has been extended as entries come from as far as Bulgaria, Brazil, Nigeria, Latvia and beyond.

As always, the full A$50 entry fee supports the transformative work of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia (NRMTA).

Entrants’ songs will be in the running for a career-changing first-place cash prize of A$50,000, the largest cash prize awarded in a songwriting competition, courtesy of APRA AMCOS, Alberts and BMG.

The runners-up also receive cash awards, with a 2nd place amount of $A10,000 thanks to AMPAL (Australasian Music Publishers Association) and a 3rd place prize A$5,000, courtesy of Aon.

The ‘Unpublished’ category will be one to watch – it comes with $A5,000 cash for the winner. Mallrat took out the category in 2018 for her song Better, the first year the prize was offered.

Songwriters of all genres, styles and at any stage of their career are encouraged to enter. Songs will be judged by a range of music industry professionals, including award-winning songwriter Lior, previous Vanda & Young first-place winner Isabella Manfredi of The Preatures, triple j Unearthed’s Dave Ruby Howe, producer Franc Tetaz and more.

The competition has supported the creative endeavours of previous winners Megan Washington, Kimbra, Husky Gawenda, Isabella Manfredi, Gretta Ray, and last year’s winner Amy Shark, as well as top finishers including Gotye, Meg Mac, and Gang of Youths’ frontman David Le’aupepe.

Named after the iconic songwriters and founding members of The Easybeats, Harry Vanda and the late George Young, in the ten years since the competition started, songwriters have helped raise over A$1,000,000 for NRMTA and its work with children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, autism, trauma, illness, dementia, behaviour disorders and learning difficulties.

Entries close 5.00pm (AEST) Thursday, 2 May 2019.
