2021 Art of Music dinner and Art Collection announced

Jenny Morris and Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy (Noro) are thrilled to announce the 2021 Art of Music Collection to be auctioned at Sydney’s most unique fundraising event, Art of Music, at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on Saturday, 17 July 2021.

Art of Music is not your standard fundraising event. Founded by Jenny Morris, Art of Music is pure creative genius and is one of the most talked about and memorable fundraisers on the Sydney event circuit.

Art of Music takes Australia’s music royalty, pairs them up with some of Australia’s greatest living artists and then unites them with one of the world’s most inspirational charities. Due to the financial impact that COVID-19 has had on the non-profit organisation, coupled with the heightened demand for services, the proceeds from the Art of Music 2021 event come at a crucial time for Noro.

“Art of Music is not to be missed. Amazing art. Amazing music. Put them together and the result is truly magical”Jimmy Barnes

“One of the most inspiring and enjoyable nights of the year, Art of Music combines iconic musicians in full swing, celebrated artists and their and their latest works, great food, fine wine and terrific company”Hugo Weaving

A group of top contemporary visual artists each choose a song or musical artist to inspire a piece of artwork. The artists can take their inspiration from the melody, the lyrics, the album cover or even the singer. It’s entirely up to them as to how they interpret the music. The artwork is then auctioned during a gala dinner in the spectacular Grand Court of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Without further ado, this year’s amazing visual artists and their subjects, are (in alphabetical order):

Holly Greenwood: Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore by Marlon Williams and Aldous Harding
Nicholas Harding: Paint My Heart by The Teskey Brothers
Leila Jeffreys: Bury Me Deep In Love by The Triffids
Laura Jones: Fall into My Arms by Ngaiire
Guy Maestri: The Bunyip of Berkeley’s Creek read by Nick Cave
Robert Malherbe: All Brand New by Underground Lovers
Tim Minchin: Airport Piano
Alex Seton: Solid Rock by Goanna
Josh Yeldham: Young Blood by The Naked and Famous

Art of Music 2021 will once again include some very special musical performances highlighting the works of art on display on the night. Noro and Jenny Morris are thrilled to announce that multi-talented performers Tim Minchin, Kate Ceberano and Ngaiire, will be entertaining our audience on the night. Stay tuned for further artist announcements in coming weeks.

Tim Minchin said, “I’m so stoked to be part of this amazing event, raising money for a brilliant charity alongside brilliant people.”

Our MC will be the one and only Jonathan Biggins, writer and performer of the critically acclaimed stage show, The Gospel According to Paul.

As well as the opportunity of bidding on works from the 2021 Art of Music Collection, there will also be some incredible raffle prizes on offer at the event.

Jenny Morris said “It’s a thrill to be presenting Art Of Music once again. We had to postpone last year but I’m hoping it makes everyone all the more hungry for high quality, original and collectable works.

“As always, my thinking around compiling the collection was to cover as many creative disciplines, styles and price ranges as possible so that there is something for everyone. Sailing above all of that of course, is the intent to present quality works. It has always been important to me to present works that will appeal not only to seasoned collectors, but also works that will whet the appetites of those beginning to see the value of buying art.

“To help present some of the works we have amazing performers lined up. To get the ball rolling we are announcing three of those performers today. All totally unique and incomparable, and at the top of their game, Tim Minchin, Kate Ceberano and Ngaiire will each perform a song represented by an artwork in the collection. In fact, Tim has donated a piano which was decorated by him in his video ‘Airport Piano’ for auction. Ngaiire will perform her song, Fall Into My Arms which has been chosen by Laura Jones as inspiration.

“This event could not happen without the huge generosity of our artists and musicians. The expense and time and energy that they put in is unquantifiable as is the benefit to our NORO clients. So my unending thanks and appreciation go out to them all.”

Hi res pictures of the artworks are available here. The folder will be updated as each new artwork has been delivered.

All proceeds from the Gala Dinner and Charity Auction go to Noro to provide it’s internationally recognised music programs to assist those less advantaged. Registered Music Therapists use the power of music in live and interactive sessions to help people cope with the struggles of living with a wide range of needs. These include children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, autism, trauma, illness, Dementia, mental health issues, behaviour disorders and learning difficulties.

Noro sees over 1,500 people a week, from small babies to elderly Australians, using music in a variety of programs, including Mini Rockers for Early Childhood, Guitars for Vets to support the mental health of returned Service Men and Women, Guitars for Firies to support the mental health of RFS Volunteers, all in addition to music therapy programs in their own clinics and at aged care centres, schools, disability centres and hospitals.
