AUSTRALIAN ALT-COUNTRY ARTIST FANNY LUMSDEN RELEASES MUSIC VIDEO FOR LATEST SINGLE “LAND OF GOLD”

5 min read

Fanny Lumsden is ‘a breath of fresh country air’ according to Rolling Stone Magazine and has been coined ‘Australia’s answer to Americana’ by Rhythms Magazine. 2016 has also gotten off to a dream start, having been nominated in the CMC New Oz Artist of the Year category and presenting the award for Alt-Country Album of the Year with Paul Kelly at the recent CMAA Golden Guitar Awards in Tamworth. The much-anticipated release of Land of Gold (lifted from debut album, Small Town Big Shot), follows on from her #1 CMC music video, Soapbox.

The Land of Gold music video which premiered via CMC digital platforms on Thursday, 11 February, 2016, along with Behind The Scenes footage, was produced by Dan Stanley Freeman and Fanny Lumsden, Sam Brumby was the DOP and Anna Phillips the Director (both of whom also worked on the Soapbox clip), with Drone Pilot, Andy Mammers, and featuring ‘Mr Happy Beans’ the kelpie.

We really wanted to make a clip that was more a ‘fly on the wall situation’ rather than something constructed. It was about getting that movement feeling and it had to be a driving clip, as that’s the essence of the song.  We also wanted to showcase some of the incredible countryside out in Western NSW that many don’t get to see,” says Fanny Lumsden.

It’s cropping and sheep country that’s not on a river or a lake or near a big landmark, so most people just drive through it on their way somewhere else.  We filmed out near Weethalle about 30km west of Tallimba, where it was 45 degrees just in the shade…Mr Happy Beans, the kelpie, was such a legend though and is definitely the star of the show.”

Fanny Lumsden is fast establishing herself as a supreme singer/songwriter, known for telling it like it is, not like it was, with CMC describing her as “one to watch”.

I actually wrote Land of Gold when we were camping in Kakadu at this beautiful place called Maguk. It literally came pouring out of me in one go. Dan, who was with me, had to scramble to light a fire and keep it burning so I could see what I was writing down!

I think what it suggests through a specific set of circumstances is a broader theme of what travelling and a journey or a trip somewhere actually teaches you; what you gain, what your expectations were, and then reality delivers.” – Fanny Lumsden
