CHRIS CUFFARO ‘Greatest Hits’ – Celebrating 30 Years of Music Photography

4 min read

With a career spanning four decades in an adventure like no other, legendary American contemporary photographer Chris Cuffaro, renowned for his prolific career in capturing some of the greatest music legends and culture of our time, announces his first Australian exhibition as part of his international Greatest Hits Tour – ‘George Michael’, launching 15 January through to January 28 2018, to be presented by Black Eye Gallery, Darlinghurst.

The exhibit brings the iconic musician back to life as Cuffaro reignites the candid rawness and emotional insight of George Michael, commencing in 1987 for the FAITH video and continuing throughout the international 1988 FAITH Tour, as the retrospective showcases forty-five official publicity; behind-the-scenes; live shows; promotional; and never-before-seen images of the late star.  It will be an exhibition for George Michael fans to marvel in, and sceptics to immerse themselves in.

“This project was about the exploration and growth of this legend’s personality and career throughout quite possibly the most life-changing years of his life, yet brings a unique perspective to a dynamic historical documentation of live music, music culture, art, and community” said Cuffaro.

Cuffaro is considered to be one of the most highly regarded entertainment photographers in the world and is responsible for a dynamic, authentic and intricate ouvre, unraveling the intrinsic complexity and appreciation of some of the greatest musicians, actors, athletes and personalities of our time, including Iggy Pop, Michael Hutchence, Jane’s Addiction, Pearl Jam, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Elvis Costello, No Doubt, Fiona Apple, Henry Rollins, Soundgarden to name a few.  His camera has captured the joie de vivre – and sometimes suffering – of his subjects both on and off stage.

“Chris Cuffaro’s pictures convey the artist’s creative process, and in particular the live experience of a concert, in a unique way.  His photographs immediately draw the viewer in.  I am delighted we can now join in presenting them in Australia” said Tom Evangelidis, Director, Black Eye Gallery.

The international travelling Greatest Hits: George Michael exhibition will be open to the public daily from January 19th to January 28th (closed Australia Day), 2018, with all works available for purchase.

Black Eye Gallery is located at 3/138 Darlinghurst Road, Darlinghurst.
