Country Superstar, AMBER LAWRENCE, Announces New Album ‘Living for the Highlights’

9 min read

Living for the Highlightsis the seventh studio album from multi–Golden Guitar winner Amber Lawrence. An insightful and truthful songwriter, and powerful performer, Amber’s new album showcases contemporary country at its finest.  Raw and gritty at times, hopeful and happy at others, it is a realistic take on life after three years of highs and lows, following the release of her much loved sixth studio album Spark.

Amber is prolific – not only has she released 7 studio albums, but 3 acclaimed children’s albums (including an ARIA nominated kid’s album The Kid’s Gone Country II), an award-winning collaboration album with Travis Collins, a live album and a live DVD.

She is beloved on social media, with one of the highest-ranked social media profiles of Australia’s top tier country artists, and is one of our hardest working artists, with a touring schedule to rival any!

Whilst addressing the challenges of the last few years, Living for the Highlights is the perfect combination of fun and upbeat party songs, mixed with delicate and poignant tributes and love letters. It reflects on good times – and not so good times – and provides an aspirational vision for the future. From the delicate and vulnerable lyrics of The Crash and You Were Mine, through the touching tributes of Jewel and I’m Coming Home, to the exciting and dance-inducing tracks Bring it Back, Fill it Up, Living for the Highlights, Sing and Making up for Lost WineLiving for the Highlights has it all.

On Living for the Highlights Amber has crafted a detailed, rich story of what it means to deal with the worst life can hand you. On Bring it Back she directly addresses the challenges of the music industry in recent times, and on the devastating ‘You Were Mine’ she documents the greatest tragedy and heartbreak of her life.

Conversely, there is a great deal of joy on this album – via I’m Coming Home, Jewel and Song, and in Rise featuring Casey Donovan, as well as the already released singles Bring it Back and Fill it Up.

There is an acknowledgement of anger too, in the song Angry, in which Lawrence sings: ‘She had to get angry in order to get happy’. On Living for the Highlights Amber steps into her power as a singer and songwriter and shows that you can sow the seeds of anger, frustration and pain and from them grow something strong, beautiful, happy and free.

Making Up for Lost Wine is what happens when you follow Amber’s previous advice in her 2016 hit Cheers to the Girls and kick that bad partner to the curb! Whether this song is about a partner, or just about getting back to life on your terms, it’s a feel good, uber-country tune, written with Nashville hit makers Kylie Sackley and Phil Barton.

Amber Lawrence is a five-time Golden Guitar winner, scoring her most recent statue for her poignant and stunning collaboration with fellow country artists Dianna Corcoran, Aleyce Simmonds, Kirsty Akers on their rendition of John Williamson’s True Blue (also performed on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House for Australia Day Live 2022). She was nominated for Female Artist of the Year at the 2022 Golden Guitars, and recently filled in for Beccy Cole as the host of ABC Radio’s Saturday Night Country in addition to her iHeart Country radio program.
