CROWDED HOUSE

Return to Sydney to be inducted into the

ARIA HALL OF FAME

as part of the ARIA Awards 30th celebrations

On November 23, 2016, ARIA will warmly welcome one of Australia’s greatest and most-loved bands into the ARIA Hall Of Fame. We will celebrate Crowded House’s extraordinary career spanning 30 years and 6 studio albums.

It was back in early 1987 when Crowded House won the first ever ARIA Award for Best Video for ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’. They went on to win a further two ARIAs for Best New Talent and Song Of The Year for ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ at the inaugural ARIA Awards.

13x ARIA Award winners, Crowded House founding members, Neil Finn and Nick Seymour said:

“Since our formation in Melbourne and our first album release in 1986 we have enjoyed a special relationship with Australia, one that has strengthened and endured over the years. We feel truly blessed that our songs have become a valued part of peoples lives across generations. As a result, our affinity with fans and the music community here is unique and one we hold very close. We are delighted and honoured to accept the invitation to be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame.”

‘Recurring Dream: The Very Best of Crowded House’ topped the Australian (8 weeks), New Zealand (8 weeks) and UK (2 weeks) albums charts and achieved 13x Platinum accreditation in Australia making it the highest selling Australian album of all time by a group.

Dan Rosen, ARIA Chief Executive Officer said:

“On behalf of the ARIA Board, it is a great honour to announce that Crowded House will be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame at the 2016 ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra. Since the inaugural ARIA Awards in 1987, the Melbourne-formed band have been nominated for 36 ARIA Awards and have come the full circle since receiving the first ARIA Award ever presented for Best Video. What a thrill that our first ever ARIA Award winner will now be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame as part of our 30-year celebrations.”

Crowded House has been an inspiration to their contemporaries and generations of Australian artists.

ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, Jimmy Barnes said:

“Crowded House make music that instantly sounds classic. They make complex things sound simple and that’s really hard to do. Neil’s songs are like Phar Lap – big hearted winners that Kiwis and Aussies are both proud to call their own.”

Multiple ARIA Award winner, Missy Higgins said:

“I grew up singing Crowded House songs, learning ‘Better Be Home Soon’ was how my brother and sister and I learnt to harmonise with each other. Their songs are so deeply embedded in my memories of childhood, and learning how to be a songwriter. They were like The Beatles to me, with such deceptively brave chord progressions and lyrics that just seemed to sing themselves. I still aspire to write a song half as good as ‘Fall At Your Feet’.”

Crowded House’s incredible legacy and perfect tunes continue to win devoted fans spanning all generations across the world, culminating recently with Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande delivering their glorious take of the Crowded House classic, ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ that has subsequently been viewed over 40 million times on YouTube.

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events, Stuart Ayres said Sydney is looking forward to celebrating 30 years of hosting the ARIA Awards.

“The ARIA Awards celebrate local music and local artists, and I can’t wait to see Crowded House receive this well-deserved recognition in Sydney this November.”

As well as watching the broadcast on Network Ten, music fans can join in the festivities watching their favourite artists arrive at The Star, Sydney on Wednesday, November 23 where Crowded House will be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame at the 2016 ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra.

The 2016 ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra and proudly supported by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW is destined to be the biggest ceremony yet and a milestone to remember.
