Gary Barlow has posted his latest ‘Crooner Sessions’ duet on YouTube, with Irish singer-songwriter legend Gilbert O’Sullivan, performing O’Sullivan’s 1972 smash ‘Alone Again (Naturally)’.
This new rendition was recorded from Gilbert’s home studio in Jersey and is the latest in Gary’s hugely popular ‘Crooner Sessions’, which have featured duets with Rod Stewart, Rick Astley, Chris Martin, Paloma Faith, Jessie J, Craig David and many others.
“This is the first time I’ve dueted on ‘Alone Again (Naturally)’ which made it even more special,” said Gilbert, “Thank-you for having me on #thecroonersessions. Really enjoyed singing with you,”
Gary Barlow said “What an honour to have Gilbert O’Sullivan on The Crooner Sessions today ! Love this song… Thanks for coming on, and sharing this wonderful music with us!”
‘Alone Again (Naturally)’ was one of O’Sullivan’s greatest hits, hitting No.1 in the US across the world (it peaked at No.3 in the UK) in 1972. Last year Gilbert celebrated the 50th anniversary of his debut hit ‘Nothing Rhymed’ with a restored HD version of the original video.
Despite lock down, Gilbert O’Sullivan continues to work “five days a week” on song-writing and recently described his approach as “just a discipline, inspired by writers such as Neil Diamond and Carole King, who would clock in at nine o’clock and sit there in a room with a piano and try to write songs…”
“I still have songs that I’m working on constantly so there’s never a dull moment,” he said, “I do that five days a week and then, at the weekend… anything but!”
