MADNESS & CHARLIE HIGSON in ‘The Get Up’ from the London Palladium – Livestream Event plus more

7 min read

After a year of kicking their heels and considering what alternative career options might still be open to them, British Pop Behemoths Madness have finally decided to dust themselves down, and get back to the only thing they know how to do properly – putting on a bloody good live show.

Watch the trailer here, as Suggs and Lee hatch a plan to Get The Band Back Together.

Produced by Driift, the company behind unforgettable online experiences for Nick Cave, Niall Horan and Kylie Minogue, ‘The Get Up!’ has been scripted by Charlie Higson and returns The Nation’s favourite and most enduring pop group to their element. ‘The Get up!’ is a one-off event and streams May 14th in the UK, Europe & the Americas (May 15th in Australia, New Zealand & Asia). It will not be available on demand after it has taken place.

Starting in the empty, tumbleweed filled streets of Soho, ‘The Get Up!’ will see the ghostly figure of Victor Marley, played by Charlie Higson, welcoming Suggs, Mark, Chrissy Boy, Mike, Lee and Woody into the forlorn, cobweb entangled World Famous London Palladium. A head spinning, hilarious, and head bobbing journey begins as our Nutty Boys embark on a live show in front of what they believe to be an empty theatre. Flitting through time and space, between the abandoned present day theatre of dreams, where ghosts from the past walk among us… the spooky backstage corridors, bars and dressing rooms of the Palladium….  and the front room of Mike’s Mum’s gaff in Kentish Town in 1977, ‘The Get Up!’ is unparalleled in its ambition and Madness’ ability to weave together unbeatable music and entertainment for all the family.

With a live set teeming with hits from their unrivalled back catalogue, ‘The Get Up!’ is also a chance for fans to hear new Madness songs for the first time ever. Madness will be joined on stage by very special guest appearances including some of the biggest names in music (and Mike Barson in a career making turn as Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II). This promises to be a joyous, definitive arrivederci to the lockdown era, as Madness usher the good times back in the way only they know how.

Fans will be encouraged to make a donation to #WeMakeEvents. #WeMakeEvents is an international movement to highlight the live event sector’s urgent need for support from government to survive the COVID-19 crisis.

Madness’ iconic hit ‘Our House’ has rarely been out of the consciousness of the British public in the 39 years since it first stormed the singles charts around the world in 1982. It is arguable that it has taken on a whole new level of relevance and meaning in this most turbulent of years.

It has been over a year since most of us experienced some kind of lockdown, and people from across the world have taken to TikTok to show what home life has been like for the past 12 months. The original video for ‘Our House’ which was filmed in the glamorous location of Willesden Junction, North London has been painstakingly restored from the original 1982 16mm film print, this new 4k version bring this iconic video to life – you can even read the lads’ newspapers – keep ‘em peeled at 2 mins 38 and 3 mins 19.

Removed from the vaults for the first time in nearly 40 years, the original finished 16mm film was transferred to a 4k digital file using the latest 21st century techniques then manually cleaned to remove artifacts such as film dirt and other visual “noise”. To top it off the audio has also been brought up to date with the best possible audio source. All that hard work makes this the finest version of the video that has ever been aired!
