Due to unforeseen circumstances, New Zealand Rocksteady group Toots & The Maytals have had to cancel their upcoming Australian and New Zealand Tour, forcing last minute line-up changes for One Love Festival.
The iconic reggae and dancehall festival, which makes its Australian debut at the Broadwater Parklands on the Gold Coast on Saturday 01 February, will now welcome The Black Seeds as the replacement act.
“We are saddened that we have to postpone New Zealand and Australia tour. Unfortunately due to advice, with the air quality at an all-time low, we cannot risk the trip. We look forward to rescheduling our tour and having a party with our Reggae lovers soon” said Toots & The Maytals.
The Black Seeds, who shot to global fame following the use of their hit ‘One By One’, on season two of AMC’s Breaking Bad, will be bringing over two decades worth of their iconic brand of Jamaican influenced hits to Australia.
“Kia Ora good people of the GC ! We are absolutely stoked to get the call up to play for you all at Australia’s first ‘One Love’. Said Barnaby Weir of The Black Seeds “Although it’s a shame Toots and the Maytels can no longer make it, The Black Seeds will bring you an epic live set we’re sure you’ll enjoy!”
Over the past two decades, The Black Seeds have gone from humble beginnings to
take their boundary -crossing reggae fusion to the world. One of New Zealand’s most loved acts, at home the multi-platinum-selling band are revered stalwarts of the touring and festival circuit, while abroad they’ve spearheaded New Zealand’s internationally renowned roots movement alongside the likes of Fat Freddy’s Drop and Katchafire.
Firmly rooted in the bass -heavy Jamaican sounds that inspired the birth of the band, since 1998 The Black Seeds’ have continued to push the boundaries of reggae without compromising the music’s heart. Seamlessly blending funk, soul, dub and Afrobeat into their reggae foundation, along with their own South Pacific influences, the result is a unique sound that stays true to the bands New Zealand roots.
Described by Clash Music as “one of the best live reggae acts on the planet’’, the band have earned a reputation for rocking dancefloors around the world!
Headlined by Jamaican dancehall legend Sean Paul and Mr. Boombastic himself, Shaggy, the iconic reggae and dancehall festival will also bring together Polynesian legends FIJI and New Zealand headliners Sons of Zion for the first time for Australian audiences.
Having sold out the past four years in a row in its hometown of Tauranga in New Zealand, One Love Festival made its first international step, with the announcement of its first date in Australia in 2019. The festival went on to sell out in just a matter of days.
“We feel that Queensland audiences have a real affinity with Reggae and Roots music. Said MJR Presents Promoter Scott Mesiti “Coupled with the stunning backdrop that Gold Coast provides; great weather, water views and a relaxed vibe, it was an obvious choice for us to hold the very first edition of One Love.”
Both Shaggy and Sean Paul will also embark on a national Australian tour in January and February, which includes shows in Sydney, Melbourne & Perth.
