Iconic Celtic soul brothers, The Proclaimers, are on their way to Australia in April for a coast-to-coast tour of concerts in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and Canberra.
After completing their two-year world tour in 2013, the strikingly individual and charismatic twins, Craig and Charlie Reid, took 2014 off to focus entirely on writing their highly acclaimed 10th studio album, ‘Let’s Hear It For The Dogs’. The album release was followed by a mammoth UK run of over 70 performances at Glastonbury, T In The Park, Belladrum, Cropedy, Wychwood, Cambridge Folk and V Festivals.
The Proclaimers will kick off their Australian tour on Wednesday 13 April at the Perth Concert Hall then traverse the country to QPAC Concert Hall Brisbane on Friday 15 April, Sydney Opera House on Saturday 16 April, The Palais Melbourne on Sunday 17 April, Wrest Point Tasmania Hobart on Tuesday 19 April and The Playhouse Canberra Theatre Centre on Wednesday 20 April. Tickets are on sale now.
Having carved themselves a niche in the netherworld where pop, folk, new wave and punk collide, The Proclaimers incite euphoric sing-alongs at their sensational live shows where their songs are delivered with passionate honesty, political fire and wit.
The Proclaimers’ second album, ‘Sunshine on Leith’ peaked at # 2 on the Australian album chart and includes the deeply moving, classic title track (Hibs anthem) along with signature tracks ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’ – Australian # 1 for four weeks in 1986 and # 3 on the ARIA Top 25 Singles Chart in 1989, and ‘I’m On My Way’ – peaked at # 3 in 1989.
In 1993, ‘I’m Gonna Be’ also soared to # 3 during a 6-month reign on the US Billboard Singles Chart after appearing on the soundtrack of the Johnny Depp film Benny And Joon, and ‘I’m On My Way’ re-emerged in a pivotal Shrek scene in 2001.
In 2007, a rousing rendition of their classic anthem in collaboration with comedians Peter Kay and Matt Lucas, resulted in ‘I’m Going To Be (500 Miles)’, raising over a million pounds for charity through Comic Relief. That same year, they sold more concert tickets in Scotland than any other single act whilst on their UK and Ireland tour of 44 shows, performing to over 100,000 fans.
Of The Proclaimers, Matt Lucas said, “I find it hard to put into words quite how the music of The Proclaimers makes me feel….It makes me laugh. It makes me cry. It just makes me generally euphoric….Sunshine on Leith says more about my life and the way I feel, than anything Morrissey or Cobain ever wrote.”
Other soundtracks featuring The Proclaimers include the enormously successful film Sunshine on Leith (script inspired by the album and 5th highest grossing independent film 2013), The Commitments, The Crossing, Dumb & Dumber, Bye Bye Love, Bottle Rocket, Slab Boys, The Closer You Get, How I Met Your Mother, Mama’s Boy, Burke and Hare, The Angel’s Share, Identity Thief, Bachelorette and Grey’s Anatomy.
A catalogue of hits and world tours have garnered The Proclaimers a phenomenal international reputation across the generations and Gold and Platinum status in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
