TORI DARKE TEAMS UP WITH MICK LINDSAY FOR A SPECIAL ONE SHOW ONLY CO-HEADLINE GIG AT THE 2016 TAMWORTH COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL

6 min read

Hot on the heels of her latest single release, the title track from her second long-player Silver Lining, Tori Darke is getting ready for what is shaping up to be a massive 2016 Tamworth Country Music Festival show. The show announcement comes as the country sweetheart was also nominated as a finalist for Female Artist of the Year at the 44th CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia, to be held at Tamworth in January.

Being nominated for a Golden Guitar demonstrates the hard-work the singer-songwriter has put into her career, especially over the past 12-months with the release of her latest album. “This is something I have strived for, for more than half my life,” says Tori of the nomination. “I am overwhelmed with excitement and feel that I have to pinch myself to make sure it is real. This year has been a bit crazy, both personally and professionally. I really want to share this new chapter of my life and my new album with everyone, I just want everyone to hear my music. I am extremely passionate about my music, as it is my life, and I want to continue to reach out to everyone who is willing to listen. The country music family is a wonderful close-knit unit and offers great opportunities to move forward in this industry.”

Tori Darke’s 2016 Tamworth Country Music Festival show is a bit of a different one from her previous gigs. This will be the first co-headline show she has undertaken, sharing the stage with Mick Lindsay for a special two-hour show. “Audiences can expect a lively energetic and fun-filled show of rockin’ new country songs from both our new albums,” she says. “There will be lots of toe-tapping, dancing and singing.”

Queensland-based Mick Lindsay is described as producing ‘country-fried rock’, a blend of country, rock and pop with a bit of funk. With the release of his self-titled debut album in 2014, country fans sat up and listed as the long-player peaked at #3 on the Australian iTunes country music charts. He is a regular on radio and CMC, and has performed with the likes of Jimmy Barnes, Jon Stevens, Ross Wilson, Grinspoon, Troy Cassar-Daley and more.

“Mick and I go way back to the Tamworth Country Music days of talent quests,” says Tori. “We caught up in Nashville a couple of years ago and put our heads together and talked about doing a co-headlining show. 2016 seemed like the most appropriate time to do this as we both have new albums and are both very excited to be sharing the stage together for Tamworth.”

Tori’s recent album, Silver Lining, debuted at #1 on the Australian ARIA Chart earlier in 2015. Silver Lining shows a definite maturity and it is evident that Tori is completely comfortable in her sound. The album itself was a four-year labour of love which involved multiple trips to Nashville on songwriting trips to make sure the content for the album was exactly what she envisioned.

With new material under her belt, returning to the Tamworth Country Music Festival for her annual trip is an exciting prospect. “It’s always exciting returning to Tamworth,” she says. “I am so looking forward to sharing with my fans the 11 new songs off my album. It will be great sharing some experiences with them and seeing their reaction to my new songs.”

Tori Darke’s new single Silver Lining, and album of the same title, are available now.
