Just one month out till Australia’s biggest outback celebration, Winton’s Way Out West Fest has announced the addition of US country superstar Charlie Worsham to the bill, playing alongside countrymen Kip Moore and Lee Brice as well as Australian music royalty including The Living End, John Williamson, Sheppard, Busby Marou and more.
The event will also host an exclusive preview performance from Australian pop princess Jessica Mauboy of her Eurovision Song Contest entry ‘We Got Love’, just a few short weeks before she jets off to Portugal to represent Australia. Winton’s Way Out West Fest patrons will be among the first in the world to see the song performed live.
Winton’s Way Out West Fest which turns the entire town into a festival site this April 19-22 will celebrate the re-opening of the Waltzing Matilda Centre, which has been given a $23 million rebuild after a devastating fire in 2015 destroyed the outback icon. The centre will be officially opened by the Governor-General The Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove who will be joined by the Premier Anastacia Palaszczuk and over 6000 people attending from across Australia and the world. With just a few tickets and camping passes remaining, the landmark event will be the biggest celebration in Winton’s 139-year history.
“No-one was more devastated than I to hear of the destruction of the original Waltzing Matilda Centre,” said John Williamson. “I am so looking forward to leading 6,000 Aussies in singing our national song when the new centre is opened. We will make sure the song never fades away. Winton welcomes you, one and all.”
“Winton’s Way Out West Fest is more than just a music festival,” said Winton Mayor Gavin Baskett. “This event is about celebrating everything that’s great about life in the outback from our songs and poems like Waltzing Matilda, through to our iconic Winton Races, our friendly locals and of course our iconic pubs. If you haven’t yet sat in an outback pub for a beer with a local, Winton’s Way Out West Fest is the best opportunity to tick it off your bucket list.”
