AND ANNOUNCED AS A FINALIST IN THE INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING COMPETITION AMERICANA CATEGORY

Since the release of her debut full length album, Queen of BoomtownGretta Ziller has continued to receive much critical acclaim as a performer and songwriter from across the music industry, including a final spot in the 2018 Golden Guitars for Alt Country Album of the Year and recognition from judges of the Australian Music Prize.  And it hasn’t stopped there with the announcement that Ziller is one of six selected from what has been described as a very impressive pool of applicants for the inaugural APRA AMCOS female songwriter and composer mentoring programs.

Matched with mentor, Tom Busby, of Busby Marou, in the Americana genre, the mentorships will take place over a three-month period.  The goal is for mentors to help and encourage the mentees with a current project, with each mentee receiving some financial support from APRA AMCOS over that time.

I was over the moon to get a phone call from APRA letting me know I was receiving one of these mentorships! I’m really excited to work with Tom, to find out about his writing process and him helping mine. I am also looking forward to gaining some knowledge on how Busby Marou walk that fine line between genres and how they make that work so well in Australia.“ – Gretta Ziller
Other successful applicants for the mentorship program include Nicolette Boaz (film composing with Nerida Tyson-Chew), Larissa Agosti (TV composing with Jay Stewart), Bri Clark (Singer-songwriting with Mark Lizotte), Mookhi aka Olympia Henshaw (Electronic music with KLP), Demi Louise (Pop music with John Watson), and Grace Drummond (Heavy music with UNFD staff).  Read more about it on the APRA AMCOS website.
Shortly after receiving news of the mentorship program, word arrived that Ziller had also been chosen as a finalist in the Americana category of the International Songwriting Competition 2017 for Slaughterhouse Blues, joining only two other Australian’s on the ISC Americana shortlist, Shane Nicholson and Matt Ellis.
With 2018 proving to be another very busy year for the up and coming singer-songwriter, Melburnians can catch a show at a venue close to home very soon and find out for themselves just why Gretta Ziller is a being hailed as a supreme vocalist and performer.
