Rocking new single from IAN BURNS ‘Friday Night’

4 min read

Sydney singer-songwriter Ian Burns is giving listeners an insight into the life of working musicians, with his new single, Friday Night.

Released today, August 17, Friday Night is a song about what most musicians get up to on the weekends, after they farewell their ‘day jobs’.

It’s about leaving work early on Friday afternoon to get to the gig on Friday night, and do it all again on Saturday and Sunday before heading back to ‘reality’ on Monday morning.

The new single tells the story of a singer who works a regular job during the week, unbeknownst to many of his weekend audience members, but he lives for the thrill of making music with his friends every weekend.

On Monday, the singer’s workmates and clients aren’t privy to the fact he’s spent all weekend playing music to fans.

“Friday Night was inspired by that whole crazy thing,” Ian said.

“It was written based around what I do and about so many of my friends. I have a lot of really good buddies who are working five days a week, but Friday night finish a bit earlier and do what they really want to do – they are two totally different worlds and I’m so thankful I get to play music with my mates.”

Friday night comes in the wake of Ian’s inspiring single, Think Again, released in June.

“This new single is rockier than Think Again, but still real and from the heart,” he said.

When Ian isn’t hitting the stage for weekends filled with gigs, he is an in-demand horse chiropractor.

“I love both my jobs, but I need music because I’d go crazy otherwise,” he said.

“I wanted to release Friday Night to tell the story about how most of my friends are doing the music thing – they are having quite a lot of success in the music world, but still working full-time jobs to pay the bills.”

Produced by Simon Johnson at Hillbilly Hut, the track features Rod Motbey on guitars, Duncan Toombs on banjo, Simon on bass and backing vocals, Brad Bergen on drums, and Liam Kennedy-Clark on hammond.

The new video clip will be out within weeks.
