Country-pop sibling trio, The Buckleys, have commenced digital pre-order for their brand new single, Run, due for release on October 9 through powerhouse independent label, Golden Robot Records, sister label to Social Family Records, also home to Amber Lawrence, Gretta Ziller and Matt Scullion.
Run is a contemporary, modern track with ghosts reminiscent of Appalachian and Celtic rhythms. Produced by Matt Fell, it features the harmonies of sisters Sarah (vocals, acoustic guitar) and Molly (vocals, mandolin), with brother Lachlan (electric guitar). The melodious, rhythmic and lyrical quality of the upbeat song reverberates a vibrant, youthful and charmingly optimistic tone.
Based in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Australia, the group consists of Sarah Grace Buckley (17yo – lead vocals, acoustic guitar), Molly Buckley (14yo – vocals, mandolin) and Lachlan Buckley (16yo – electric guitar, slide guitar). Growing up in a musical family (their Dad the former drummer of Legendary Australian Rock ‘n’ Roll band The Radiators), from a young age they were exposed to a diverse array of musical genres including country, swing, motown, rockabilly, rock ‘n’ roll, bluegrass, blues and jazz. From Patsy Cline to The Rolling Stones, Kasey Chambers, Keith Urban, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, The Eagles, Brian Setzer, etc, music has always been an intrinsic part of their lives.
They officially formed in 2011 when on a family holiday at the Tamworth Country Music festival. Jamming on Peel Street, they were notified the following day that they had made the top 10 of the Tamworth Country Music Festival busking competition – not knowing they were even in the competition, which had over 600 acts competing. They were invited to perform on the main stage the very next day.
From there, the band have gone on to perform internationally to crowds of up to 60 000 people at festivals, events and concerts such as Sydney Carols in the Domain, Music City Roots in Nashville (Broadcast live on PBS American Public Television), Byron Bay Blues Festival, Bluebird Cafè and more. They have co-written with some of the world’s most prominent, Grammy award winning hit songwriters, as well as performed alongside many of the greats including Jim Lauderdale, James T from American Blues Band Canned Heat (Going Up The Country), Bill Chambers, The Kentucky Headhunters, Rafe Van Hoy, Smokin’ Joe Robinson, Carter and Carter and many others.
Amalgamating their love for and upbringing in country music with rock ‘n’ roll, blues, motown, swing, jazz and funk influences, their unique sound and honest lyrics create an appeal that resonates with multiple genres and across numerous demographics. Run came about thanks to Mark Moffat in Nashville, was pitched to The Buckleys by Sony/ATV Publishing, and written by Jennifer Hanson, Jason Lehning and Kelleigh Bannen.
